Broadcasting Internet radio

Previous topic Next topic

RadioBOSS lets users set up their own Internet radio station. The program can send audio stream to a Shoutcast or Icecast server to broadcast it out to listeners. The software reads the audio data from a playlist and encodes it on the fly. It's possible to set up any number of broadcasting encoders.

To broadcast Internet radio, follow the steps shown below:

1. On the top menu bar, select Settings -> Options...

2. In the Settings window, select Broadcast.

Enter the station name, description, URL and other parameters. This is the global station information and is used for all encoders. Any encoder can override this information if needed.

3. Click the "+" button to add a new encoder.

4. The encoder window will appear.

broadcast_2

Here, you should fill in the required parameters:

Server address and password - this is provided by your stream hosting provider (unless you're using your own server). Usually you can find this information in the control panel.

Metadata encoding - it is better to leave the "Auto" setting, as it works in most cases.

Sample rate, Encoder type, Bitrate and Channels set the broadcasting format. The stream hosting provider should inform you as to what format you should use.

RadioBOSS will show an error message in the report (bottom left corner) if the setup is incorrect. The error message usually states what's wrong. The error message indicates the encoder number that failed to start ("output 1" or any other number).

On successful connection, the message will be: Connected to server! (output N).

Most common error messages:

Cannot start broadcasting (output N): Error 2100

The specified password is incorrect. Please check the password.

Cannot start broadcasting (output N): Error 2

The server is not available or the specified server address is incorrect. The problem is probably incorrect address or port entered.

Other reasons: antivirus software or a firewall is blocking the connection or no network connection is present.

The Station Info tab allows you to override the global station information for this encoder.

Once you have entered all the settings, click OK.

5. In the settings window, click the checkboxes on all the encoders that you want to use. Don't forget to click the "Broadcasting enabled" checkbox on the top in order to turn  the broadcasting on.

6. Click OK.

Once the broadcasting properties are configured, RadioBOSS will broadcast whatever is currently playing via the Internet radio station in real time.
