RadioBOSS Help
System
Generating a playlist RadioBOSS allows users to create a playlist from a template. To create a template, there is a special tool called Playlist Generator - a simple tool to create random playlists.
There is also more advanced generation tool: Playlist Generator PRO.
This article describes the usage of Playlist Generator.
This module is used to configure a template and generate a playlist from the tracks in the music library. It is possible to generate a template by the tracks count or playlist duration.
To create a template, follow these steps:
1. On the top menu bar select Playlist > Playlist Generator...
The Playlist Generator window appears.
The user can either enter the desired quantity of tracks in a playlist or set the duration of a playlist in minutes. In this example, we choose to create a template by playlist duration.
2. Select Playlist time and enter the duration of a playlist in minutes.
Sometimes users want to add ad breaks and new hour signals. If it is necessary, check Begin at specified time and enter a playlist start time - this option sets the time when playlist is supposed to be played.
3. Select a database for a playlist.
If the user wants to use a default database, no action is necessary. However if another database needs to be used, it is necessary to specify the file. The database files are created using the Music Library utility.
4. Click Step 2 tab
The next tab appears.
On the tab above, the user needs to choose a playlist generation mode.
By default, the program selects tracks from the music library at random. It is also possible to set the program to skip tracks of the same artists (Do not repeat tracks) and the same title or exclude tracks of the same artist (Do not repeat artists). Moreover, the program can be configured to select only tracks that contain specific words in the Comment field. In our example, these words are "pop" and "rock".
5. Click Step 3 tab.
The next tab opens.
On this tab, users can set up a rotation, such as Top 10 of the Week. Prior to creating a rotation, the rotation playlist should be created. In our example above, we add a rotation list and set tracks to be selected in random order. One track from the list will be inserted at a time.
6. Click Step 4 tab.
The Step 4 tab appears.
On this tab, one can add a jingle playlist. A jingle list should be created prior to generating a playlist. In our example, a jingle playlist starts after 2 tracks. Please note that only one track from the jingle playlist will be inserted each after each 2 music tracks.
7. Click Step 5 tab.
The Step 5 tab appears.
On this tab, users can add a playlist of hour signals. Each track must have a time specified in its filename (for example, 10.00.mp3, 12.00 mp3, etc.) Please note that it's better to schedule commercials and hour signals using Scheduler. (For more details, please refer to Scheduling playback)
8. Click on Step 6 tab.
The Step 6 tab appears.
On this tab, users can add a playlist of commercials. Track titles in this list must contain a specific start time (for example, 12.40.m3u, 19.50.m3u, etc.). A commercial playlist must be created before generating a playlist. While it's possible to insert commercials using Playlist Generator, we don't recommend using it - better to use Scheduler for this. 9. To generate a
playlist, click the Generate button Once the playlist is generated, the result is shown above the Generate button as informational marks (Base, Error, Result).
To immediately load this playlist in the RadioBOSS, click the Export to player button. You may save the playlist to a file by clicking the Save as playlist button.
To reset the template, click the Clear template button.
To save current template settings as a preset template for the future, click the Save button. The Scheduler can be used to create playlists automatically using the saved template.
